New Plan for the Port of Mahón: Modernisation Meets Tradition

Imagine you’re in Mahón, enjoying the sunshine and sea breeze, when you hear that the port is about to get a major facelift! The Port Space and Use Delimitation Project (DEUP) is the latest proposal aiming to give the Port of Maó a modern and functional twist, without losing the natural charm we all love about Menorca.

What’s being planned?
Well, the main idea is to redefine how the spaces in the port are used so that everything runs like a well-oiled machine. From improving infrastructure so that more boats can dock without issues, to ensuring the city and the port are more connected than ever. Can you imagine strolling through a more accessible port, with areas to relax and enjoy the surroundings?

What about nature?

Don’t worry, they’re not going to spoil the landscape. In fact, one of the pillars of this plan is sustainability. As Menorca is a Biosphere Reserve, any changes must be extremely eco-friendly. So yes, you’ll still have those breathtaking views, but with a cooler and more functional port.

What else is coming?
There’s a bit of everything: improvements to the waterside area to make maritime traffic a breeze, new spaces for cultural activities, and of course, all while keeping in mind that the port should remain a place where everyone can enjoy themselves.

In summary, Mahón is preparing its port for the future, making it more accessible and sustainable, while adding a touch of modernity. So, if you’re one to enjoy a stroll by the harbour, get ready to see this place transform into something even more special. Mahón is getting a makeover!
